He is an expert at exercise bikes, has been on this bike, and you can trust his opinion on all of the bikes he reviews.

In Brief

The ProForm 225 CSX bike is a low-cost bike from a great brand, bottom line. If what you’re wanting is a relatively simple bike you can use indoors, without a lot of expensive add-ons and features, this might be it. No, I wouldn’t say this is the “Cadillac” model by any stretch, but in my experience, the average fitness fan isn’t looking for that. Priced at $799 with discounts down around $599, this is a bike I’d pick up for the home gym and ride while watching television.

As with all ProForm products, the bike is iFIT-enabled, which means you can utilize the program’s automatic trainer control and 10,000+ workout video library to your heart’s content, for a price of $39 per month. No worries if you opt out, the bike still works in manual mode, but you do lose some features. In the case of the ProForm 225 CSX though, I wouldn’t be as worried about that due to the price. It’s still a nice upright bike, not a spin bike, though. Again, this customer is probably less interested in the fast-paced studio workouts like spin classes, and more interested in pedaling for mileage and time. If you do keep the iFIT program going though, it does include Spotify, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. It also includes connectivity with Strava, Garmin Connect, Google Fit, and Apple Health.

With a 5-inch touchscreen, there’s not much magic here, but you’ll get all of your data readout easily enough. The bike comes 20 levels of digital resistance, which is enough for most users I’m sure. Measuring 35.1″ x 21.2″ x 57.7″ at a machine weight of 79 pounds, it has a maximum user weight of 275 pounds. The flywheel is 14.96 pounds. Bottom line, this is a smaller bike and while stable enough for low-imapct users, if you’re looking at it, you’re probably not into hard-core racing. It does sport a USB-C charging port, Bluetooth headphone connectivity, and two 2″ premium speakers.

The ProForm 225 CSX is a small-framed, low-cost bike which is perfect for seniors, youth, and other lower-impact users. It’s not a spin bike, but rather an upright bike, but rest assured you can still get a lot of mileage out of this. ProForm has a stellar reputation and it’s quality for sure, but it’s bringing a 15-pound flywheel and a relatively small frame. The good news is it’s easy to move around and very light. In the meantime, you do get a nice 5-inch iFIT-enabled Smart HD touchscreen bringing you workouts on all seven continents with National Geographic quality. Whether you’re using Bluetooth headphones or the premium speakers, the iFIT workout never fails to work. If you opt out of the $39 per month program, the manual mode is a circular track.

Priced at $799 with regular discounts and free shipping, the ProForm 225 CSX Bike brings good value for the money. The bike measures a small 35.1″ x 21.2″ x 57.7″ and weighs just 79 pounds. Just as a reference, the NordicTrack 10 Recumbent bike has a footprint of 67.2″ x 23.3″ and weighs 186 pounds. So, it’s a smaller, less expensive bike with a smaller screen. Another comparison would be the the Sole LCR Light Commercial Recumbent. Built with a 10″ screen, that unit comes with 10 built-in programs and 40 levels of resistance. Priced at $1,799, you can see the difference in the dollars.

Another key difference is the type of instruction available with your $39 monthly membership. With ProForm, your iFIT videos aren’t offered live like some of the Peloton classes, and the selection of spin classes is smaller. Peloton has a pretty impressive daily live schedule of spin classes for you to choose from. The tradeoff is that iFIT includes many other benefits such as global workouts in beautiful locations, Google Maps rides where you virtually bike outside, a larger variety of personal trainers, and lots of other personal training related tips and tricks. It’s also more interactive because iFIT instructors can control your resistance and incline during workouts where Peloton workouts require you to adjust your resistance manually. During iFIT workouts, your trainer automatically adjusts your machine to match their instructions, fully immersing you in the class. Both bike memberships provide exercise guidance in areas outside the cycling arena from resistance training and kickboxing to meditation and more.

Standard warranty coverage for the ProForm 225 CSX Bike includes 5 years of coverage for the frame, 1 year for parts, and 1 year for labor. Dig deeper into the pros and cons of the ProForm 225 CSX Bike below.

Who Should Use The ProForm 225 CSX Bike?

The ProForm 225 CSX Bike is built with budget in mind. It’s a low-cost upright bike with a nice, padded seat, still affords you 20 levels of digital resistance. Its lighter flywheel does help explain the lower maximum weight of 275 pounds. I’d say this bike is better for smaller users, seniors, youth, and those looking to gauge the workout by distance and time. It’s not a high-dollar spin bike with lots of flashy features, but for the average user simply looking to burn off the calories and lose weight, this is a good pick.

Like any ProForm machine, the 225 CSX Bike delivers the best value to people who enjoy trying new workouts on a regular basis. If you like cool streaming workouts, and an unlimited number of Google Maps routes, and other customized workout programs will help you to stay motivated, then ProForm is a great brand for you in general.

Bottom Line

In my assessment, ProForm came up with the 225 CSX Bike to answer customer questions involving price and size. You won’t have a problem moving this unit around the house. Still, you can get a great workout for under $1,000 here, even if you opt out of iFIT and just use the manual track. This is certainly not a bike for those wanting a spin class, but rather for those who value price and longer distance rides.
