In Brief

If you’re looking for an alternative to the Peloton which features automatic trainer control, the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike is coming in with strong performance this year. Designed for spin classes, this is a $1,499 bike that I’ve also seen on special for $1,299, or for free with a multi-year contract with iFIT. Purchase also comes with a pair of 3-pound dumbbells, and it’s clear this bike is built for lots of hard work.

As with all ProForm products, the bike is iFIT-enabled, which means you can utilize the program’s automatic trainer control and 10,000+ workout video library to your heart’s content, for a price of $39 per month. No worries if you opt out, the bike still works in manual mode, but you do lose some features. In the case of the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike though, keep in mind this is a studio bike. So, if you’re not into the iFIT programming, then perhaps you have a smart television with which you can interact. If you do keep the iFIT program going though, it does include Spotify, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. It also includes connectivity with Strava, Garmin Connect, Google Fit, and Apple Health.

Built with a 10-inch high-definition touchscreen, the bike comes with 22 levels of Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR) and a 24-pound flywheel. Measuring 54.8″ x 22.6″ x 56.6″ at a bike weight of 114 pounds, the unit can hold up to 250 pounds. It does sport a USB-C charging port, Bluetooth headphone connectivity, and two 2″ premium speakers.

This is a good mid-size studio bike with a 10-year frame warranty, two years for parts, one year for the tablet and labor. With a smaller screen than pricier units, I doubt you’ll outgrow this bike, irrespective of your abilities.

The ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike is a great little studio bike, perfect for spin classes. The big value here is it’s price relative to other spin bikes. With a 10-inch high-definition touchscreen, it’s built to work with the iFIT workout app and its automatic trainer control, which adjusts the speed while you ride. Packed with other features, these include a USB-C charging port, Bluetooth headphone compatibility, and a pair of 3-pound dumbbells. The bike does work without the $39 iFIT app in a manual mode if you opt out.

Priced at $1,499 with regular discounts and free shipping, the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike could be a really good deal depending on how you buy it. The bike measures a mid-sized 54.8″ x 22.6″ x 56.6″ and weighs 114 pounds. So, just to give you a comparison here, the Peloton Bike+ sports a massive 23.8″ high-definition touchscreen and measures a slightly larger 59″ x 22″ x 59″ and 26 levels of SMR. Its price is $1,445 with a $44 per month app fee. Clearly that’s an advantage for the Peloton, unless you get the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike on special for just a three-year contract with iFIT. That’s effectively half the price then. Also, some people just aren’t that into big screens. If the big screen is a distraction and you’re not into the Peloton craze, this could be a viable alternative of comparable quality.

The big difference here is the type of instruction available with your $39 monthly iFIT membership. With ProForm, your iFIT videos aren’t offered live like some of the Peloton classes, and the selection of spin classes is smaller. Peloton has a pretty impressive daily live schedule of spin classes for you to choose from. The tradeoff is that iFIT includes many other benefits such as global workouts in beautiful locations, Google Maps rides where you virtually bike outside, a larger variety of personal trainers, and lots of other personal training related tips and tricks. It’s also more interactive because iFIT instructors can control your resistance and incline during workouts where Peloton workouts require you to adjust your resistance manually. During iFIT workouts, your trainer automatically adjusts your machine to match their instructions, fully immersing you in the class. Both bike memberships provide exercise guidance in areas outside the cycling arena from resistance training and kickboxing to meditation and more.

Standard warranty coverage for the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike includes 10 years of coverage for the frame, 2 years for parts, and 1 year for labor. Dig deeper into the pros and cons of the ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Studio Bike below.

Who Should Use The ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Bike?

The ProForm Carbon Pro 10 Bike is a great studio bike with some cool pricing specials. Frankly, if you can score this bike for just a three-year commitment to iFIT – which let’s face it, you’re probably going to get anyway – then it’s clearly a winner. It’s also designed for people who don’t care for large screens. This 10″ high-definition touchscreen is plenty big enough to use, but it’s not so overwhelming as to be immersive. Some people like that. Also, it’s designed for people who like the automatic trainer control style of workouts offered by iFIT. If you’re not into streaming training, then neither ProForm nor Peloton are really for you anyway, and it’s just too easy to pick up a studio bike without a screen.

But with 22 levels of magnetic resistance, Bluetooth-enabling, and a pair of 3-pound dumbbells to boot, it’s a solid addition to your home gym. This is particularly true if you have other ProForm or NordicTrack equipment and are already into iFIT.

Bottom Line

This is a bike I’d watch for pricing specials. If you can score it for the 3-years of iFIT, then I’d take that deal and run. ProForm does like to discount its bikes around holidays too. At the MSRP it’s comparable to other units but with a smaller screen. With one of the discounts, you’re really getting a good deal here.
